Events in Florida, Woodstock & Marietta showcase distance team

4/7/22
By Coach Andy Carr

The Milton track & field teams entered spring break with three more meet competitions before heading off for some much-needed time away from the classroom and came away with many personal bests and school all-time top-10 performances and some individual victories.

GIRLS
Florida Relays
The Lady Eagles sent one lone team representative to the prestigious Florida Relays held at the University of Florida in Gainesville and became a top-3 all-time school performer! Junior Farrah Frith (3rd-11:05.51) continued her very successful season with a dramatic come-from-behind race win in the
slower section of the 3200m and that time placed her 3rd overall in the field of 36 entries. Frith’s performance makes her now the 3rd best performer for the distance in school history!

Woodstock Distance Carnival
Milton (3rd-22 points) again showed some strong team results (besting 5 scoring schools) as the Lady Eagles put 4 finishers in the top-10 of the 1600m with all four running personal bests! Leading the change was sophomore Ella Grace Malcom (3rd-5:29.24) who was in the race for the overall win and
was followed by the career bests from seniors Genevieve Trainor (6th-5:36.74) & Megan Stechschulte (7th-5:39.27) and sophomore Calista Cacciatore (10th-5:50.14). Cacciatore doubled back to score in the 800m as well (7th-2:39.26). Milton’s other scorers included senior Jessica Albregts (4th-13:11.87) in the 3200m & freshman Macy Schadt (5th-21:29.91) in the 5000m!

BOYS
Woodstock Distance Carnival
Milton (7th-5 pts) got their team points from the 800m (from a first-time event participant) & the 3200m. In the 800m, junior Ethan Hagel (8th-2:06.04) was running the event for the first time and after a very fast start, held on to run the team’s 3rd best time of the season and score a point for the Eagles! Later in the 3200m, junior Pearson Gillam (5th-10:45.77) ran a smart and tactical race (also a big personal best) to pass many runners in the 2nd half of the race to place the highest among the boys for Milton. Most of the distance team competed at the meet with almost all the team members running personal bests for the distances they raced.

Marietta Spring Break Invitational
At one of the largest (59 schools) meets of the season, Milton (17th -16 pts) bested close to 20 scoring schools! The highlight was the great jumping of senior Andrew Dassler (1st-14’1”) in the pole vault. Dassler beat back 16 of the state’s best vaulters to get the event victory! Continuing his successful
season in the 400m, senior Ethan Marcum (4th-50.13) ran against some of the state’s best, and it took a top-25 performance to turn back Marcum who was less than a second off the win. The final scorer for the Eagles was senior Charlie Reynolds (8th-7:25.32) in the 2000m Steeplechase. Charlie was 6th in the faster section of the event and his result makes him the 8th best performer in school history.

The Eagle track & field teams next see action at home after school on Wednesday, April 13th at their senior night meet with North Springs & Centennial coming to compete and Milton celebrates its senior team members.

Milton finishes 6th in both Girls & Boys team competitions

Roswell HS
March 26
By Coach Andy Carr

The Milton track & field teams returned to the windy confines of the Roswell Hornets and came away with two individual Fulton County track & field champions and finished 6th as a team in both the girls & boys team standings out of 13 schools.

BOYS
Milton (6th-61 pts) bested 7 schools and scored a few top-3 podium positions on a cool & blustery day. Individually the Eagles had one individual county champion in senior Andrew Dassler in the pole vault. Dassler (1st -14’) beat back 9 competitors to capture the county title. Other top-3 finishing athletes for Milton included junior Cory Chambers (2nd-10:02.17) in the 3200m run after placing 4th in the 1600m run. Junior Roman Atlow also finished runner up in the High Jump (2nd-6’) and senior Devin Dahunsi recorded a personal best (and the 4th best jump ever in school history) in the triple jump (3rd -43’8.5”) to record the only other podium placing spot for the Eagles.

GIRLS
The Lady Eagles (6th-42.5 pts) also distanced themselves from 8 schools in the team competition while crowning one individual county winner. Junior Farrah Frith (1st-11:25.77) led Milton with her thrilling victory in the 3200m run which makes her the 7th best performer in school history! Earlier Frith was a frustrating 5th place in the 1600m run. Highlighting the Lady Eagles efforts was the only other top-3 podium finish and it came from the girls 4×800m relay team (3rd-10:14.05), that just missed being runner-up by 2/100ths of a second! Seniors Genevieve Trainor, Megan Stechschulte & Shelby Howerton along with sophomore Leelah Dennis comprised the team and were with the race leaders the entire contest.

The Eagle track teams next see action on Friday at the annual Woodstock Distance Carnival and Saturday at the Marietta Spring Break Invitational before going on break until April 13th when Milton hosts their senior night meet with Centennial visiting the Eagles nest.
